It can be difficult finding the right warranty company to buy extended coverage from. This guide may provide some insight if you’re on the market for new coverage. In this article, our review team will take a closer look at NVP Warranty’s coverage, prices, customer experience ratings, and more.

To see how NVP stacks up against some of the best extended car warranty companies like Endurance and CarShield, our team of automotive experts has researched 45 warranty companies and surveyed over 2,000 past customers. After assessing NVP Warranty, we give the provider 4.0 out of 5.0 stars.

Our NVP Warranty Review And Methodology

NVP Warranty was founded in 2015 by several industry professionals with years of insight into extended auto warranties and customer needs. The company works in conjunction with dealers to provide a variety of vehicle service contracts.

While NVP Warranty is a relatively good company, its ratings from us put it behind 18 other warranty providers we’ve reviewed. More experienced businesses like Endurance and CarShield may be better options in this case.

How We Rated NVP Warranty

To give you the most current information, we update our review standards several times each year. Our warranty research evaluates providers in the following main categories:

We’ve given NVP Warranty an average industry rating largely because of its youth as a warranty provider. NVP is not generally a well-known company like Endurance, CarShield, or Carchex. Despite being less than a decade old however, NVP Warranty has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Coverage: 5.0 Stars

NVP offers many versatile coverage options, which is why we give it a high coverage rating. With five tiers of coverage that steadily range from basic powertrain protection to full-on bumper-to-bumper coverage, NVP provides flexibility for drivers with varying needs for their cars. NVP’s coverage is impressive, considering the company isn’t that old.

Price: 4.0 Stars

We’ve given NVP Warranty an average price rating partially because it’s difficult to get quotes. NVP warranties are offered strictly through dealerships, which means cost data information is even less accessible.

However, since NVP Warranty is still relatively new to the warranty market, its extended service plans are likely to be cheaper than the average warranty. These pros and cons place our rating for the price category somewhere in the middle.

Customer Experience: 4.0 Stars

NVP Warranty has a low customer satisfaction rating on the BBB site, at 2.6 out of 5.0 stars. However, this is only out of 63 customer reviews. Out of over 1,100 reviews on Google, the warranty company has a much higher rating of 4.2 out of 5.0 stars. Customer reviews often reflect on the friendly, helpful, and consistent communication they received from NVP’s representatives.

Is NVP Warranty Worth It?

To know whether it’s worth it to get a warranty from NVP, compare the quotes you get from various warranty companies to the potential out-of-pocket repair bills you’d have to pay if your vehicle ever suffered a mechanical breakdown. Considering how reliable your car and its manufacturer is will also help you.

How Reliable Is Your Vehicle?

You’re less likely to need an extended warranty if you have a newer vehicle that’s less than 10 years old and is under 100,000 miles. Vehicles that are over a decade old or that have incredibly high mileages are far more likely to break down and need repairs. It also helps if your car was made by a reliable auto manufacturer like Lexus, Genesis, or Kia.

According to the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study℠, three-year-old Lexus vehicles only suffered 133 problems (the average being 186) per 100 vehicles on average, which places the luxury brand at the top for vehicle reliability. On the other hand, Land Rover found itself at the bottom of J.D. Power’s dependability rankings because of its 273 problems out of 100 vehicles.

Here are the top six most dependable automaker brands and the bottom six least reliable auto brands according to the study. If you have an older Land Rover or a high-mileage Mercedes-Benz, you may want to consider getting an NVP warranty.

How Much Will Car Repairs Cost?

Repairs can cost $652 per year on average, according to RepairPal. However, getting part replacements can easily cost more for components that break down more often. The table below can help give you a rough idea of what you’d have to pay out of pocket to repair common car parts:

Vehicle Component ReplacementAverage Repair Cost
Power steering hose$576 to $608
Water pump$732 to $866
Transmission control module$738 to $792
Alternator$638 to $821
AC compressor$930 to $1,149

NVP Warranty Customer Reviews

NVP Warranty hasn’t been around long enough to create the same amount of customer reviews that can be found by leading warranty providers such as Endurance and Carchex. However, the company does have a positive 4.3-star rating on Google – out of over 1,000 reviews.

Many reviews talk about the quickness of the claims process and the friendly and professional nature of NVP’s service representatives:

“Jackie was outstanding. She provided excellent service. She was compassionate when handling my issue. You have a real asset to your company with Jackie.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed my issue gets resolved with your company. Thanks again and keep up the good work Jackie!!”

– Thundahur (Google Reviews)

“[NVP Warranty is] very courteous, very attentive to details, and very polite. The team responded without hesitation and was able to resolve my issues and listen to me … Highly recommend this warranty company. They are concerned and do treat you as a valued customer.”

– David C. (Google Reviews)

NVP Warranty Complaints

Like all warranty companies, NVP definitely has its complaints. The complaints mostly revolve around customers claiming that dealerships offering NVP warranties misled them on exactly what the company’s contracts would cover:

“I [was] under the impression that this warranty would cover just about anything involving the engine. … NVP will find every possible way around paying [for repairs]. Now I find myself with expensive car repair bills which NVP has avoided [and] the cost of a useless warranty. … The company refuses to cancel or reimburse the [plan].”

– Maria M. (BBB)

“Misleading! [The dealership] led us to believe we were getting fantastic coverage that ‘covers everything’ with [NVP Warranty’s] 5-Star plan. In reality, it covers almost nothing. Total waste of money. Stay away from this warranty company.”

– L.S. (BBB)

NVP Extended Warranty Coverage

NVP Warranty has five extended warranty categories to choose from: Exclusionary, 5-Star, 4-Star, 3-Star, and Powertrain. The table below showcases the systems and components that each plan covers in a nutshell:

Component/SystemExclusionary5 Star Plan4 Star Plan3 Star PlanPowertrain
Drive axle
Seals and gaskets
Four wheel drive/AWD
Air conditioning
Fluids and filters

*See sensor exclusions under “Exclusionary Coverage.”

Exclusionary Coverage

NVP Warranty’s overall highest level of coverage is the Exclusionary plan. This plan offers exclusionary component coverage, meaning your contract will cover everything except certain listed parts. If a part isn’t listed as excluded in your contract, it’s covered.

Exclusionary won’t cover GPS or navigation systems or special hi-tech components like camera systems, parking sensors, radios, communication systems, and more.

Exclusionary Plus And Wrap

A subtier of the Exclusionary plan, Exclusionary Plus, is designed specifically for vehicles with starting miles up to 150,000. Exclusionary Wrap includes all factory-installed mechanical and electrical components except for a small list of exclusions. Mileage starts at zero.

5-Star Coverage

NVP Warranty’s highest level of stated-component coverage is the 5-Star plan, which provides protection for most of the vehicle. This plan includes trip interruption coverage and coverage for fluids and freon.

4-Star Coverage

The 4-Star plan is a mid-level plan that includes all components covered in lower-level plans, as well as the fuel system and vehicle sensors. More coverage is added for the air conditioning, electrical, and suspension systems. The plan includes 24/7 roadside assistance and rental car benefits reimbursement.

3-Star Coverage

In addition to complete powertrain coverage, the 3-Star plan covers limited parts within the air conditioning, steering, electrical, suspension, and brake systems. Perks of this plan include 24/7 roadside assistance and rental car benefits, but limitations may apply.

Powertrain Coverage

The most basic NVP Warranty plan provides coverage to all parts of the powertrain, including the engine, transmission, drive axle, and parts related to the four-wheel-drive/all-wheel-drive systems. All associated seals and gaskets are also covered. The plan includes roadside assistance, but limitations may apply.

NVP Warranty Term Limits And Regulations

NVP Warranty starts your coverage as soon as the company receives your contract and accepts your payment. Because your vehicle is coming from the dealership, there’s no waiting period before NVP Warranty coverage begins. This is different from most other extended warranty companies, which clearly state a waiting period of around 30 days and 1,000 miles (or sometimes more).

While most warranty companies provide coverage for a specified duration of time and mileage, NVP Warranty has coverage with “add-on” terms. This means that the contract term length, specified in years and miles, begins at the start of your contract. For example, some providers will cover vehicles for 5 years/60,000 miles, but the 60,000 miles refers to your car’s eventual odometer reading, not 60,000 miles from the date of your warranty purchase.

NVP Warranty actually covers your vehicle for 5 years/60,000 miles beyond the contract purchase date and odometer reading when you purchase your contract. This means that you receive coverage for exactly the amount of time stated without receiving a plan that’s already partially used up.

What Does The NVP Warranty Not Cover?

NVP Warranty didn’t always offer 24/7 roadside assistance or rental car reimbursement with each of its plans. Most companies offer these benefits as a standard part of coverage, so it’s encouraging to see NVP make that change. Trip interruption coverage, on the other hand, is only included with the 5-Star and Exclusionary plans.

While NVP now offers the typical 24/7 roadside assistance with each coverage plan, Endurance allows a unique Elite benefits package for one year that includes up to $500 in collision repairs along with key fob replacements and more.

Wear-And-Tear Provisions

Most extended warranties only cover repairs and parts replacements related to malfunctions or manufacturer defects. In fact, many companies clearly state that they do not cover any parts or repairs related to typical wear and tear. However, with the NVP Warranty Wear and Tear surcharge, you can add wear-and-tear coverage for specific parts and components.

How Much Does An NVP Warranty Cost?

Since NVP warranties are administered through dealerships, it’s difficult to get pricing information. Companies that are newer like NVP are more likely to present cheaper car warranty options than companies that have been around longer, like CarShield and Endurance.

In October 2023, our team conducted a survey across 1,000 car owners that had bought extended warranties. More than half of customers reported paying between $1,000 to $3,000 total for their coverage. However, this number accounts for consumers that bought protection plans from many different warranty providers – not just NVP Warranty.

Extended warranty costs typically range anywhere from $300 to $800 per year, or $1,000 to $5,000 overall. The price of an extended warranty from NVP will depend largely on the make, model, age, and mileage of your vehicle, plus the coverage level you choose.

NVP Extended Warranty Reviews: Our Take

If your car dealership offers vehicle service contracts through NVP Warranty, the provider may be worth considering for its add-on wear-and-tear coverage and lack of wait times before the contracts begin. Remember that only certain tiers of coverage include added perks like trip interruption.

Many other companies provide the ability to check your plan, claims status, and other aspects of your specific coverage at any time through their websites. Unfortunately, NVP has virtually no services through its very limited site.

Regardless of which plan or provider you choose, we recommend obtaining quotes and comparing contracts from multiple sources before making a final decision.

NVP Car Warranty Reviews: FAQ

Below are some common frequently asked questions about NVP extended warranties:

How do I use NVP Warranty?

To make a claim with NVP Warranty, you or your chosen repair facility must contact an NVP claims adjuster for pre-authorization before any diagnostics or repairs begin. A claims adjuster will quickly process your claim. When the repairs are finished, the mechanic will fax your repair order to NVP, and NVP will directly pay the repair shop for the service.

Is there a waiting period for NVP Warranty?

No. Your NVP warranty coverage begins as soon as you receive your service agreement and make your first payment.

How long has NVP Warranty been around?

NVP Warranty has been an incorporated warranty company since January 29, 2015. It has since grown into a successful provider of vehicle service contracts.

What does a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty mean?

A warranty that lasts 10 years/100,000 miles usually means that its coverage will expire on a vehicle when the vehicle becomes 10 years old or reaches 100,000 miles on the odometer. With some warranty providers, this could also mean that a warranty will expire 10 years/100,000 miles from the start date of the contract. Warranties this long typically only cover the powertrain of vehicles.

Can I cancel NVP Warranty?

Yes, you can cancel your NVP warranty by contacting the dealership that sold you the warranty. You’ll have to fill out a cancellation form, but you should get a prorated refund.

How We Rate Warranty Providers

Our review process aims to deliver consistent and unbiased assessments of extended auto warranty providers. While there are multiple qualities that make a warranty company successful, our review team focuses on those we believe are the most important for consumers:

  • Reputation: It’s important that an extended car warranty company is able to meet its claims obligations. Companies with a strong rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and a long history of reliable service score well in this category. We also evaluate the availability and transparency of each company’s contracts, as well as whether each provider offers a money-back guarantee.
  • Coverage: Our team of experts looks at the number of extended warranty plans available, as well as term limits, exclusions, and added benefits like roadside assistance. Ratings also take into account the availability of maintenance coverage.
  • Price: Cost can be difficult to compare between providers because so many factors impact vehicle service contract pricing. To determine our cost score, we perform a secret shopper analysis for a variety of vehicles and plans and consider available deductibles.
  • Customer Experience: We listen to real customer sales calls and comb through reviews on sites like the BBB to learn about customer experiences. Warranty companies with a low volume of complaints score well in this area. We also consider the availability of mobile apps and chat features.
