Over the last 70 years, Mopar has become the parts provider for all Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) vehicles and a new and used car warranty provider for Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, and Ram. It also offers extended auto warranties through its Mopar ® Vehicle Protection program.

Mopar warranties, also referred to as Chrysler extended warranties, are factory backed and use genuine Mopar parts for repairs. In this review, we examine the Mopar extended warranty and the best extended car warranty companies. When you’re looking for extended warranty coverage, we recommend comparing quotes from several providers to find the best rates.

The Gist:

  • Mopar extended warranties cover many important systems and components, including the engine, transmission, air conditioning, and brakes.
  • The Mopar Maximum Care plan lasts up to 8 years/125,000 and typically costs between $2,500 to $4,000 in total.
  • According to RepairPal, average repair costs for Fiat Chrysler Automobile vehicles range from about $600 to $700 per year.

An extended car warranty refers to mechanical breakdown coverage offered by a vehicle manufacturer. However, this term is often mistakenly used to describe coverage from third-party companies. Independent providers offer similar protection through vehicle service contracts, but we’ve used the terms interchangeably in this article for convenience.

Mopar Extended Car Warranty Coverage

Mopar extended warranties can last up to 8 years/125,000 miles, depending on the plan you choose. There are four levels of Mopar extended warranty coverage to choose from, Maximum Care℠, Added Care Plus, Added Care, and Powertrain Care Plus. Customers should contact their dealerships to find other vehicle plans that may be available. Dealerships with Mopar plans include:

Mopar Extended Warranty Plans

Each Mopar extended warranty plan provides a different level of coverage. In order to determine if a Mopar extended warranty is right for you, it is important to understand what is and what is not covered by a Mopar vehicle service contract. Below we will review each plan’s coverage, term length, and deductible options.

Mopar Maximum Care℠ Warranty

The Maximum Care plan is a comprehensive coverage plan most similar to a new vehicle factory warranty. Maximum Care covers over 5,000 of your car’s components except for wear-and-tear items like brake pads, windshield wipers, and tires. The plan coverage can last up to 8 years/125,000 miles and comes with deductibles of $0, $100, or $200.

Mopar Added Care Plus Warranty

This stated-component warranty covers over 850 components, including those related to power systems and luxury vehicles. The covered mileage terms vary from 60,000 miles to 150,000 miles, and Added Care Plus plans last for five to eight years. The deductibles for Added Care Plus plans are $0, $100, or $200.

Mopar Added Care Warranty

Added Care is a midlevel plan that covers your pre-owned vehicle’s major components, including the engine, transmission and drive axle. The plan also covers the power group, air conditioning, and braking system. Coverage terms range from one to five years, with mileage intervals of 12,000, 15,000, or unlimited. You can choose from $100 or $200 deductibles.

Mopar Powertrain Care℠ Plus Warranty

Though the Powertrain Care Plus is a basic powertrain warranty, it also covers the air conditioning and steering system. Coverage terms for Powertrain Care Plus plans range from 5 years/85,000 miles to 8 years/125,000 miles with deductibles of either $0 or $100.

Added Perks For All Plans

All Mopar extended service contracts include these benefits:

  • Up to $100 toward towing and roadside assistance
  • Car rental allowance of up to $175
  • Up to $1,000 toward trip interruption protection

Maximum Care and Added Care Plus have the additional benefits of key fob replacement and repair.

Additional Coverage

Mopar extended warranty also offers three extra coverage plans:

  • Auto Appearance Care: This plan covers dings and dents on your vehicle’s exterior.
  • Road Hazard Tire and Wheel Protection: The replacement or repair cost of all four tires is covered when they’re damaged by road conditions.
  • Mopar Vehicle Protection MultiCare: This covers tires, interiors, and more. MultiCare also covers certain damage caused by construction, car washes, and other sources often excluded in normal extended service contracts.

Mopar Extended Warranty Cost

To get a quote for a Mopar vehicle protection plan, you’ll need to visit a local FCA dealership. To make the quote process more convenient, some local dealers have instant quote calculators on their websites.

According to our research, the average extended warranty costs about $3,026. Several factors will affect the cost of a vehicle service contract, such as:

  • Mileage of the vehicle
  • Vehicle make and model
  • Vehicle age
  • Warranty coverage and term lengths
  • The price of the deductible

Typically, if you choose a comprehensive plan, the price of coverage will be higher. Plans with lower deductibles are usually more expensive than plans with low deductibles because the warranty provider pays for more of the cost of repairs.

How To Cancel A Mopar Extended Warranty

If you’re the original owner of the vehicle warranty, you can cancel your plan. To cancel, you’ll need to follow these steps:

  1. Take your car to the dealer where you purchased the warranty.
  2. The dealer will contact Mopar on your behalf to request cancellation.
  3. If there’s no authorized Mopar dealer in your area, Mopar will let you cancel via phone, email, or fax.

No matter how you choose to cancel, these are the documents you’ll need to provide:

  • Cancellation request
  • Plan provisions
  • Proof of payoff
  • Vehicle’s current mileage

Transfer Policy

You’ll be able to transfer the remaining warranty coverage to a new car owner in most cases for a fee of $50. If you’ve financed your Mopar Protection Plan, you’ll need to pay the plan in full before it can be transferred.

How We Rate Warranty Providers

Our review process aims to deliver consistent and unbiased assessments of extended auto warranty providers. While there are multiple qualities that make a warranty company successful, our review team focuses on those we believe are the most important for consumers:

  • Cost: Cost can be difficult to compare between providers because so many factors impact vehicle service contract pricing. To determine our cost score, we perform a secret shopper analysis for a variety of vehicles and plans and consider available deductibles.
  • Coverage: Our team of experts looks at the number of extended warranty plans available, as well as term limits, exclusions, and added benefits like roadside assistance. Ratings also take into account the availability of maintenance coverage.
  • Reputation: It’s important that an extended car warranty company is able to meet its claims obligations. Companies with a strong rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) score well in this category. Established providers with a long history of reliable service also receive positive marks.
  • Customer Experience: We listen to real customer sales calls and comb through reviews on sites like the BBB to learn about customer experiences. Warranty companies with a low volume of complaints score well in this area. We also consider the availability of mobile apps and chat features.
