Pros Decent selection of coverage options Optional upgrades for maintenance coverage
Cons F rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) BBB alert for pattern of complaints Many negative customer reviews

Auto Protection Club offers four vehicle service contracts to help drivers with the cost of repairs after mechanical breakdowns, plus a few extras. We’ll cover the company’s reputation, reviews, and plans to see if it’s a good fit for motorists today.

We’ve reviewed a number of the best extended warranty companies on the market to help drivers find plans that are dependable. Some companies are better than others, so it’s a good idea to shop around. You can get a few free, personalized quotes from leading providers below.

Auto Protection Club Review: 2.5 Stars

Considering the large number of bad reviews, we’d suggest looking for other providers. Auto Protection Club offers a decent range of repair and maintenance coverage, but whether it keeps its end of the bargain or gives good service is another story.

About Auto Protection Club

Auto Protection Club is a third-party extended warranty provider based in Missouri. The company has been around since 2014 and also operates as Greenlight Auto Protection. It sells plans in Missouri and Illinois.

The company stands out for a maintenance upgrade option that it offers. Not many extended car warranty companies cover maintenance, so that’s something unique. However, it also stands out for the number of complaints and one-star reviews it has received.

Auto Protection Club Extended Warranty Coverage

Auto Protection Club offers four plans: Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. Plans are administered by other companies, including Integrity Admin Group, Omega Auto Care, and Royal. Drivers can go to any licensed repair facility in the U.S. or Canada for coverage.

The Platinum plan is an exclusionary warranty. It covers any part except those on a short list of exclusions. Compared to other providers, Auto Protection Club’s Platinum exclusions are fairly standard. Here are some examples:

  • Catalytic converter
  • Exhaust components
  • Cosmetic items
  • Wear items like brake pads
  • Alignment and other regular maintenance
  • Paint
  • Sheet metal
  • Aftermarket parts
  • Key fobs
  • Audio systems

This plan adds coverage for the fuel system and cooling system in addition to covered items under the lower-tier Bronze and Silver plans. It’s available for cars with fewer than 125,000 miles.

The Silver plan includes everything from the lower-tier Bronze plan, plus:

  • Electrical
  • Air conditioning
  • Power doors/windows

Vehicles with up to 150,000 miles are eligible for coverage.

This plan is Auto Protection Club’s most affordable option and can cover vehicles up to 200,000 miles. It’s a basic powertrain warranty that covers the following systems:

  • Engine
  • Transmission
  • Drive axle
  • Transfer case
  • Turbocharger

What Auto Protection Club Does Not Cover

In addition to the exclusions under the Platinum plan, all plans share certain exclusions, like:

  • Damage from lack of maintenance, misuse, or the environment
  • Engine breakdown caused by sludge or carbon
  • Pre-existing conditions
  • Damage from negligent repairs made by other third parties
  • Damage to a covered part by a non-covered part and vice versa
  • Breakdown from fluid contamination
  • Unauthorized repairs

Auto Protection Club Perks

All Auto Protection Club plans come with two extra benefits at no cost:

  • Roadside assistance: This benefit includes towing, lockouts, fuel delivery, and battery jump-starts. It covers up to 10 occurrences over the life of the contract.
  • Rental car reimbursement: This benefit covers rental car costs up to $35 per day for up to five days in the case of a covered repair.

Auto Protection Club does not provide trip interruption, which would reimburse you for food and lodging if you had a breakdown more than 100 miles from home. Most other leading extended warranty companies do cover trip interruption.

Upgrades And Mandatory Surcharges

Auto Protection Club plans allow drivers to choose from the following prepaid maintenance upgrades:

  • Seals and gaskets: This option covers all seals and gaskets in the case of failure (not seepage). Seals and gaskets in the powertrain systems are already included under standard plans.
  • Oil changes: This option provides reimbursement for one $40 oil change per year for the contract term.
  • Brake pads/shoes: This option provides up to $100 for brake pads or shoes during the life of the contract.
  • Wiper blades/exterior lights: This upgrade provides up to $20 toward new wiper blades or exterior lights during the life of the contract.

Lastly, the following vehicles or situations require a mandatory surcharge:

  • All-wheel-drive vehicles
  • Diesel engines
  • Vehicles over one ton
  • Turbocharger or supercharger
  • Hybrid or electric vehicles
  • Lift kit modification
  • Rideshare vehicle

Auto Value Plus®

Drivers can get another type of plan from Auto Protection Club called Auto Value Plus. This plan covers 40 percent of qualifying car repairs, some scheduled maintenance, and insurance deductibles.

Cost Of An Auto Protection Club Extended Warranty

Auto Protection Club doesn’t publish prices online, but that’s a standard practice in the industry. You’ll have to get a quote from the company to know what you’d pay.

We’ve researched quotes from the top providers and have found plans cost between $350 and $650 per year of coverage. Like car insurance, extended warranty prices are based on your situation. Here’s what will affect the quotes you receive:

  • Your car’s make and model
  • Your car’s mileage
  • Your state and location

How Auto Protection Club Extended Warranties Work

Auto Protection Club’s quotes and claims processes are standard, but we would like to see an instant quote option. Instead, prospective customers have to wait for a team member to contact them with prices. Once you buy a plan, you have 30 days to look it over and decide if you want to cancel for a full refund. You’ll pay a $50 cancellation fee and receive a prorated refund if you cancel after 30 days.

You can transfer an Auto Protection Club warranty for a $50 fee if you decide to sell your car later on. In some cases, this can help add value to your car. Contracts can only be transferred once, and the secondary owner will not have access to roadside assistance.

When filing a claim, give your plan information to the repair shop. The shop needs to get authorization for the repair before any work can be done. You might need to authorize a teardown diagnosis or wait for an inspection from the administrator.

Be aware that the maximum rental car limit is five days even if it takes a few days for the administrator to inspect the vehicle. The contract allows up to three days for parts delays and one day for inspection delays, but those allowances don’t increase the maximum limit of five days total.

You’ll have to pay your deductible once you get your vehicle after repairs are complete. The amount will be specified on the contract.

Auto Protection Club Reviews

Auto Protection Club doesn’t have a huge number of reviews on the BBB, but most of them are negative. Reviewers talk about denied claims, aggressive telemarketers that don’t respect do-not-call lists, and rude customer service representatives. In fact, the BBB has received a pattern of consumer complaints and recommends that people take caution when considering doing business with Auto Protection Club.

Here are a few examples of positive and negative reviews:

“They just paid $1,500 for my air conditioning repair. Thanks!”
– Steffen G., BBB

“I would recommend this company. They set me up with Omega Admin and I had a good experience with getting my car fixed when it broke down.”
– Owen M., BBB

“I called in July 2018 [five months prior] and cancelled because I bought a new vehicle. I still haven’t received my refund. They keep telling me it will be in with the next batch.”
– Roberto R., BBB

“After doing my research on Auto Protection Club and wanting to cancel the warranty (that I haven’t even had a full business day), things changed. The reps were suddenly very rude, very condescending, and disrespectful toward me.”
– R. B., BBB

Frequently Asked Questions

Are vehicle protection plans worth it?

Vehicle protection plans can be worth the cost if you want to avoid paying for expensive repair bills out of pocket. Instead, you’ll make a monthly payment to the extended warranty company. In addition to giving you peace of mind that a range of repairs are covered, extended car warranties can help you predict your monthly budget.

What is an auto protection plan?

An auto protection plan, also known as a vehicle service contract, is a program that will pay for particular repairs outlined in a contract. Repairs are covered by a third-party provider, not your car’s manufacturer.
